the creation of space

The big social groups (consisting of classes, parts of classes, or institutions ... ) act with and/or against each other. From their interactions, strategies, successes, and defeats grow the qualities and “properties” of urban space.

  1. Although there is a useful and pleasing vagueness to this quote, this same vagueness demonstrates a clear need for investigating these 'qualities and "properties"' in a more situated manner. It seems that whatever these properties and qualities are, they need to be understood in a relevant way to a present cultural life. With Body Cartography we are looking to explore urbanism through dance/movement as these are primarily concerned with training the body for a heightened spatial awareness as well as to express complex abstract phenomena, by the way one merely holds themselves.
